An angle measuring 45° is a 45-degree angle. It is the exact half of a right angle (90° angle).

How to Measure the 45-Degree Angle

To measure and determine whether the given angle is 45°, we use a protractor and follow the following steps:

  1. The protractor is aligned with the given ray OX, as shown below. The reading is initiated from the 0 mark on the bottom right of the protractor.
  2. The number on the protractor that coincides with the second ray OY measures the given angle.
  3. The value recorded using the number on the lower arc of the protractor is 45°.

Real-Life Examples

  • The solar panels are inclined towards the sun to trap sunlight
  • Used in architecture to construct designer doors and window grills

Solved Example

Emma drew a horizontal line on a piece of paper. Oliver divided it into two equal halves by drawing a vertical line over it. Liam further divided the two parts into four equal parts. Finally, their drawing is given below. How many 45-degree angles are formed?

Solution:

Emma divided the horizontal line to get two angles measuring 90° each. Oliver divided the line into two halves, producing two right angles (90° each). Liam further divided each right angle to get four 45° angles, as shown
So, a total of four 45° angles are formed.
