The circumference of a sphere is the circumference of the largest possible circle inside a sphere great circle. It is also known as the great circle which contains the center and the diameter. It is expressed in linear units such as mm, cm, m, in, or ft.
The diagram below shows the circumference of a sphere.
We will learn how to find the circumference of a sphere in this article.
The formula to find the circumference of a sphere is:
Circumference (C) = 2πr, here π = 22/7 = 3.141, r = radius
Let us solve some examples using the above formula.
Find the circumference of a sphere with a radius of 12 cm.
As we know,
Circumference (C) = 2πr, here π = 22/7 = 3.141, r = 12 cm
∴ C = 2 × 3.141 × 12
≈ 75.4 cm
Find the circumference of a sphere with a radius of 10 ft.
As we know,
Circumference (C) = 2πr, here π = 22/7 = 3.141, r = 10 ft
∴ C = 2 × 3.141 × 10
= 62.82 ft
