Decimal to Percent

Converting a decimal number to percent means to express it per 100, as ‘Percent’ or ‘%’ means per 100.

We can easily turn a decimal to a fraction with the help of a calculator or converter. However, we might not have a converter handy.

Steps

So, let us take 0.25 and change it to percent as illustrated in the figure below.

Decimal to Percent
  1. Multiply the decimal with 100.
  2. Move the decimal point 2 places to the right. Add a zero right after the decimal point. It can be done mentally also without a pen and paper.
  3. Put a ‘%’ sign after the result. Remove the zero if there is no following digit.

Let us solve some examples involving the above concept.

Solved Examples

Solution:

As we know,
0.125 × 100 = 12.5

∴ 0.125 is 12.5%
