Converting a decimal number to percent means to express it per 100, as ‘Percent’ or ‘%’ means per 100.
We can easily turn a decimal to a fraction with the help of a calculator or converter. However, we might not have a converter handy.
So, let us take 0.25 and change it to percent as illustrated in the figure below.
Let us solve some examples involving the above concept.
Convert 0.125 to percent.
As we know,
0.125 × 100 = 12.5
For changing any decimal to fraction, we shift the decimal point 2 places to the right, and put the percent sign at the end.
∴ 0.125 is 12.5%
Write 0.8542 in percentage.
Shifting the decimal point to 2 places to the right,
We get:
∴ 85.42%
What percent is 3.6?
